Support for adults

Our leaflet ‘Mental Health Support in North Tyneside’ provides details of groups and services that you can contact to self-refer for support with your mental health needs.

NHS Crisis Services

If you, or someone you know, of any age is experiencing a mental health crisis, you can now call NHS 111 and select option 2 for urgent mental health support. NHS 111 is available 24/7.

If you are deaf or have hearing loss please use NHS 111 – SignVideo or use the 18001 111 Relay UK app.

NHS staff will be able to guide callers with next steps such as face-to-face community support, facilitating access to alternative services such as crisis cafes or safe havens, or to A&E/hospital based support where necessary.

Previously, local health systems had their own separate phone lines for mental health crisis support. Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust have created a video to show what callers can expect when they call NHS 111 and select option 2 for urgent mental health support. More information on the changes is also available here here.
